What's Digital Storytelling?

Digital Storytelling is a short form of digital media production that allows everyday people to share their story.
The essential elements of digital stories are on this page!
  1. Authentic
Digital stories are one individuals account of their own experiences and thoughts. The theme and content is completely set by the individual and this makes the stories ring true.
  2. Short
The majority of digital stories are less than 3 minutes long. Despite this being a short amount of time, it is amazing how the essence of a person or a story can be relayed in this time!
  3. Not Perfect
The digital stories on this website are made without intervention from professional video-makers. People photograph or video the things that relate to their story and put these together on a computer. The fact that they are not perfect is part of their charm.
  4. 1st Person Narrative
The most important part of a digital story is that it is told in the first person. Digital stories are personal stories.
  5. Home Made
Digital stories are not made with expensive cameras and equipment. Participants use their phones or their tablet/laptop to take photos and videos. With technology available to nearly everyone today, it is easy to make stories and the workshops help!
  6. Peer to Peer Support
Through the process of digital storytelling in a workshop setting, participants learn more about themselves and are more open to being supportive of others. The process is one of the most fundamental aspects of digital storytelling.
  1. Engaging
Someone once wrote that statistics never kept them awake at night but a good story did! Digital stories tend to engage the audience in a different way to scientific information.
  2. Wide Application
Digital stories can be used in all sorts of contexts whether it be in the area of public good (e.g environment, health etc) or within businesses in terms of team building and communication.
  3. Emotional
Digital stories are often emotional stories as people tend to speak to what is important to them.
